A good harem done right is awesome. Like Shield Hero, where there is a deep reasoning for their love and his reluctance is not due to ignorance...

But sometimes, like in Kicked out of the Hero's Party, a harem would ruin the show. I remember such a harem, where the protagonist chose his woman from the start, and the others couldn't take the hint... his "kindness" felt insulting, and the others felt like virgin horn dogs... while if the love was shared between a few of them (say clones), it would have been awesome.
